I’ve Got Some Big-Ass Life Updates!

Why wouldn’t I? After all, I’m not some lazy, inconsiderate jerk who lies around in bed all day.

Hello again, beautiful watchers! Before I continue with this blog’s regularly scheduled programming (although, honestly, I’m using the word “scheduled” in the loosest possible sense), I feel I should update you on two new life events going on behind the scenes, especially since there’s a strong likelihood they will be affecting my upload schedule in the near future.

The first is that I have recently rejoined the workforce after a nearly three-year absence. I have been accepted as a dishwasher at a local bistro/creperie (which, incidentally, is located right next door to the hardware store where I was laid off on Halloween 2022). I’ve been working there for three weeks now, and it’s been quite interesting finding out what it’s like, seeing what goes on in a restaurant kitchen as opposed to experiencing the various local eateries from the dining area. Some dishes are harder to scrub down than others, and my back tends to start hurting if I spend too long hunched over the sink, but other than that, I have no complaints so far. In addition to my regular hours spent scrubbing the dishes, my boss has also discussed the possibility of my writing blog posts advertising the business (not here on PrestonPosits, but on the company’s blog). I must admit, the prospect somewhat intimidates me, not only because I have little experience writing something like that (the closest I’ve come is probably my review of The Sudbury Devil), but also because I’ll be writing to satisfy the person who signs my paychecks. Not that I think that will be particularly hard, since he’s a pretty easygoing person, but, of course, my autism often makes a mountain out of a molehill in social situations like that.

The other big life update that I want to share is that I’ve finally gotten serious about pursuing that driver’s license I’ve been after for a while now. Granted, I’m still in the earliest stages of that journey. My sister has informed me that I would need a valid state ID to get a license or learner’s permit. Unfortunately, though, my current one expired two years ago, and now I have to jump through a few bureaucratic hoops to get a new one. There is an online pre-screening process I can complete on the New York State DMV website to get started, which I started the day before I wrote this. Unfortunately, that process has stalled as I don’t have any bank statements on hand to provide “proof of residency” (I tend to throw those out as a rule, and my next one doesn’t come until the end of the month), and I can’t use my passport as “proof of name” as my current one expired twelve years ago. I’ll definitely need to make an appointment to remedy that. Once I become street legal, I intend to devote as much time as possible to getting the hours I need to finally obtain my driver’s license.

I’m not sure how much either the job or becoming a student driver will affect the blog, but I do know my plans for the upcoming spooky season. First will be the “Cryptids of North America” episode thirteen, in which I discuss Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster, and other creepy creatures said to inhabit the darkest corners of West Virginia. It does feel a bit weird doing it so soon after the last “Cryptids” article, but I feel compelled to do it quickly before the Halloween season comes and goes. That also goes for the “1001 Animations Halloween Special” I’ve been planning for a while now, which I also wish to complete before the month is over. I think it would be cool to do a themed episode of my trek through the history of my favorite artistic medium, exploring the spookiest and most horrifying entries in the history of animation. I’m also planning to do a Christmas-themed “1001 Animations” article in December, so stay tuned for that.

That’s all I have to say about all the new things going on in my life at the moment. Even if these latest developments slow the progress of my writing on this blog, I still hope you’ll stay tuned for whatever random bullshit I want to talk about any given week. Until next time!
