New Year, New Updates

Well, 2025 is in the rearview mirror, and I don’t think I or anyone in my audience is terribly sad to see it go. It was a long, hard year for both my country as a whole (with Trump managing to outdo all of the worst aspects of his first administration in less than a year) and for me personally, what with me needing to seek out psychological help after an ill-advised attempt to find work in the food service industry caused mental health issues that had been building for years to reach a crisis point. This is reflected in my slower output this year: I counted 31 new articles published on PrestonPosits in 2024, compared with only 17 in 2025. I obviously can’t say whether my output in 2026 will be better or worse (I’m hoping it will be at least over 20), but I do have a plan for the first half of this year, at least.

I hope you guys like my animation articles, because you’re going to be seeing nothing but that throughout January. As you can tell, it is 2026 now, yet I still haven’t put out my “best animated films/TV shows of 2024” list yet. Yeah, I may have gotten a little bit distracted throughout the year. I did start that “1001 Animations” project, which probably set me back more than I wanted. Suffice it to say, though, that project is going on the back burner until I get the 2024 lists out. Luckily, I have the skeletons of those articles completed. All I have to do is write the actual reviews.

“I see,” I imagine you saying, “so then you’ll be starting the 2025 lists right after, of course!” Actually, there is something else I’ll be working on before I start those: the best animations of 2022 that you may have missed. Don’t worry, I’m not doing two complete lists like the ones for 2023, 2024, etc. I’m merely choosing five films and TV shows from 2022 that I feel may have been unfairly overlooked, either due to them being indie, not adequately promoted, or outright canceled and removed from their original streaming service, only to be rescued by another well after 2022 (those in the know proabably know which series I’m talking about here, but I’d prefer to keep it a secret until the actual article comes out). I can’t say for sure when that article is coming out, as I still haven’t finished watching all the movies and shows I wanted to (I’m probably two-thirds of the way through as of now). Still, there’s stuff on there that I’m very eager to share with you guys, so keep an eye out for that!

As for non-animation stuff, that’s a bit in the air until the lists come out. The next “Cryptids of North America” article, covering Virginia, likely won’t come out until February or later. There are also several other ideas I’ve been flirting with, including some I shared in my 2024 New Year’s update article (more political debunking lists, esoteric spiritualities, Native American cultures, resurrecting “The Complete Noob’s Guide to the Left” and “P.J.’s Ultimate Playlist,” etc.). Another idea I’d like to try again is doing another episode of “P.J.’s Ultimate Playlist,” where I do another list like the one I did for Led Zeppelin, in which I listen to all of one of my favorite artists’ songs and rank them to find out which ones crack my top 20. There are plenty of other bands that I could use for such a list (Queen, Pink Floyd, Blind Guardian, Metallica, Rush, Yes, maybe even the Beatles if I’m feeling really ambitious).

However, all of this will probably still be up in the air until I finally finish the one project that I’ve been trying and failing to complete since May 2024: the Jurassic Park retrospective. Remember when that was just a fun project I was going to do as a birthday present for myself? I have considered just abandoning the retrospective entirely and not covering the two animated series at all, but I feel like I have too much to say about them to drop them entirely.

Fortunately, though, I do have a plan to get that finished finally. Once I’ve completed the 2022 animation list, I plan to watch Chaos Theory in its entirety, in the hope that it will inspire me to finish the retrospective once and for all. The blog has, at least to me, felt like it’s been in a weird limbo state ever since the retrospective started, with a little voice in my head telling me I can’t fully move on with any other projects until I finally complete it. So, yeah, that’s the plan (also, if you’re wondering about Jurassic World Rebirth, I’m not including it in the retrospective. I do own a DVD of the film, and I’ll likely just post a short review once I finally get around to watching it).

I also have an idea for a project revolving around the long-dormant Divine Conspiracy that I’m hoping to get around to sometime later this year, but that’s going to take a lot of work, and I’d rather not commit fully to it until both Jurassic Park and the animation lists are over and done with. I’ll talk in more detail about when I feel like I’m ready for it.

So, that’s my plan! Come back, hopefully later this month, to learn about my favorite animated films of 2024. Happy New Year, and ciao for now!
